The Ale Kino! Festival is a unique event that has been inviting children and youth to discover the world through cinema for over 60 years. Every year, for 8 days, Poznań transforms into a capital of films from around the globe – ranging from animations and feature films to documentaries and short films.
The International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino! continues the tradition of the Animated Film Review launched in 1963. It is the second-oldest film festival in Poland and the second-oldest youth film festival in the world.
At Ale Kino!, we have been presenting the best films of the year to the Poznań audience, many of which have won awards at the world’s most prestigious festivals. The program also includes films that have not yet made their festival debuts and were discovered by our programming team. Each year, we offer a range of films that never enter wide theatrical distribution, making the festival a rare chance to see them on the big screen.
What is the Ale Kino! Festival?
Ale Kino! is more than just a film festival. It’s a space for discovery, learning, and experience. It broadens horizons, provokes thought, and inspires young viewers to ask questions about the world. It doesn’t limit itself to one aesthetic, convention, or geographic boundary – it reaches far, explores the unknown, and allows audiences to experience cinema in a deeper, more engaging way.
At Ale Kino!, we help people discover the world and themselves through cinema.
A Film Festival for Children, Families, Teenagers, and Youth
At Ale Kino!, everyone can find something for themselves. Parents with children just beginning their cinematic journey, children, teenagers, and young adults looking for stories that reflect their own experiences, and even adults open to diverse cinema. Festival films explore themes of growing up, relationships, and identity; they allow viewers to feel, to find joy, and to spark their imagination. After the screenings, we don’t leave the audience alone with their thought. We create space for questions, meetings with filmmakers, and open discussions. Because this is a festival that listens to young people and gives them a voice.
A Festival that Empowers Young People
The festival is also a space for co-creation. Young people can participate in the work of the Youth Programming Council and serve on the Children’s, Teen, and Young Jury. The sense of shared experience and the integration of the community, especially those who create youth film festivals, are what make Ale Kino! truly stand out.
